Christmas Gift Ideas

giftbox

When getting ready for Christmas, part of the process is buying presents. Every year around this time, while I’m not in full-steam-ahead Christmas shopping mode just yet, I do make a list of holiday gift ideas for everyone I have to shop for and I keep my eye out for suitable candidates whenever I find myself in the mall or browsing online. While this habit has pretty much remained constant through the years, what with inflation, the fluctuating cost of living and the uncertain economy in general, my philosophy of gift giving has changed somewhat. I used to be an avid believer in giving gifts that a person wouldn’t buy for themselves; little indulgences to take the focus off of our daily routines that can often be stressful or tiring. For the past few years, though, especially for friends with children who have a tendency to go without a new appliance so that they can buy sports equipment or dance shoes, I have been known to give gifts of a more practical nature.

Gifts for the New Mom

Fisher Price Rainforest Bouncer

Dream On Me Twin Double Stroller in Pink

A new mom would really appreciate a portable bassinet or bouncer.

Both mom and baby need to get out of the house every so often, particularly if the new mom on your Christmas list is having twins. Surprise her with a stroller built for two.

Gifts for Kids

KidKraft Busy Town Train

What little girl doesn’t want a dollhouse for Christmas?

Teamson Design Magic Garden Play Castle

Keep the little conductor in your life entertained for hours with a full-size train table with all the bells and whistles.

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Kitchen Play Center

Encourage a new generation of chefs and let them cook to their hearts’ content.

Gifts for the Adults

Glass and Bottle Wine Rack

Winsome Light Oak Beechwood

For the avid host or hostess on your Christmas list, a decorative wine rack or handy wine cart will make holiday entertaining easier and more stylish.

Powell Jewelry Armoire in Merlot

Does your friend or sister spend too much time trying to find a certain piece of jewelry whenever she gets ready to go out? Help her get organized with a beautiful jewelry armoire she’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Upright Luggage in Black

Whether they frequent fliers or only go on the occasional trip, everyone can use a quality suitcase that looks great and can take a beating, especially during the holiday season. With today’s ever improving technology, durable, lightweight luggage is really affordable.

One Christmas, I had bought presents for everyone on my list except for one of my girl friends. I had drawn a total blank. When I was in a bookstore shopping for a couple of extra little hostess gifts to have on hand just in case I needed a present for someone not on my list, I spied a book/DVD combination about slow cookers. The DVD was a how-to guide while the book was a collection of recipes. As soon as I saw it, I thought that it would be the perfect gift for my friend who had recently purchased one. Yes, chocolates and other indulgences are nice gifts, but items we use every day to make our lives a little easier and more comfortable make great Christmas gifts too.
